The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS) is a German political foundation named after the socialist leader Rosa Luxemburg. It works to promote social justice, democracy, peace, international solidarity, and socio-ecological transformation. For many years, RLS has partnered with research institutes, universities, and social organizations in Vietnam, supporting research, training, and community development projects. The RLS Hanoi office serves as a crucial bridge, fostering mutual understanding and promoting academic exchange and international cooperation between Vietnam and global partners.

The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung is an official partner of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). On May 27, 2025, VNU Vice President, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, and the Head of the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Mr. Stefan Mentschel, signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions. The agreement outlines joint efforts to implement research programs, workshops, training, and academic exchanges on public policy and management, socio-ecological transformation, and to promote exchanges of experts, scholars, and researchers to enhance VNU’s international academic connections.

The partnership between VNU and RLS began in 2002 with a policy research project at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. It later expanded to the Faculty of International Studies (2012-2015) and the University of Law (2012-2014, with a scholarship program added in 2023). Over more than two decades, this collaboration has contributed to advancing research, training, and disseminating initiatives for sustainable development in Vietnam and the region.

By sponsoring this International Conference on Vietnamese Studies, RLS continues to affirm its role as a strategic partner, supporting VNU in elevating the conference’s academic quality and expanding its international influence. This practical support for 20 international scholars will enrich the discussions, enabling a multifaceted exchange of ideas, research, and initiatives, and opening up opportunities for long-term collaboration.

About Rosa Luxemburg

Born on March 5, 1871, in Zamość, Poland (then part of Germany), Rosa Luxemburg was active in social movements that opposed injustice and war. Alongside her comrade Karl Liebknecht, she fought relentlessly against war, supported internationalist ideas, and opposed the militarization of Germany. Her economic analyses revealed the root causes of World War I. She was assassinated in Berlin on January 15, 1919.

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) was founded in 1992, named after the revolutionary woman, with a commitment to preserving and developing her legacy. It is a non-profit organization that operates internationally, provides political education, and serves as a center for progressive social research in Germany and worldwide.

The Vietnam office of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) was established in 2009 and is headquartered in Hanoi. However, RLS’s first projects in Vietnam began in 2003.

RLS operates in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries with the goal of promoting political education, analysis, and dialogue on issues such as social justice, socio-ecological transformation, and global peace and security.

The RLS team in Vietnam is part of the global network of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s Center for International Dialogue and Cooperation and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

CALL FOR PAPERS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
“Vietnam’s diplomacy and international cooperation in the new era”

Every 4 years, the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies (ICVS) is organized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences for national and international scholars to present their research results, provide policy recommendations and research directions to the leaders of the country and all stakeholders around the world. Within the framework of the 7th ICVS this year, VNU University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) is assigned to host a pre-ICVS international conference on “Vietnam’s diplomacy and international cooperation in the new era”.
The organizers hereby call for your contributions; details are as follows:
1.Conference theme: Vietnam’s diplomacy and international cooperation in the new era.
2.Date: 09 August, 2025 (possibly from 8-12am Hanoi time).
3.Venue: ULIS – SUNWAH Building, 144 Xuan Thuy Road, Cau Giay, Hanoi, Vietnam.
4.Format: Onsite and online via Zoom Meeting (hybrid).
5.Forms of contributions:

GS.TS Furuta Motoo: Người thầy gieo hạt giống tri thức, kết nối hai dân tộc bằng trái tim

“Việt Nam là mối tình đầu và cũng là mối tình thủy chung của tôi suốt nửa thế kỷ nay. Có thể nói rằng tôi là một nhà khoa học nước ngoài Made in Vietnam” – GS.TS Furuta Motoo, Hiệu trưởng Trường ĐH Việt Nhật, ĐHQGHN chia sẻ.

Là nhà nghiên cứu Việt Nam học hàng đầu tại Nhật Bản, chuyên gia uy tín về lịch sử và chính trị Việt Nam, GS.TS Furuta không chỉ giảng dạy bằng kiến thức, mà còn bằng cả sự đồng hành, thấu hiểu và tình yêu với đất nước này. Ông sử dụng thành thạo tiếng Việt, dành cả sự nghiệp để nghiên cứu về Việt Nam. 

GS.TS Furuta Motoo từng là Hiệu trưởng Trường Đại cương, Đại học Tokyo (2001-2002); Nguyên Phó Giám đốc Đại học Tokyo (2004 – 2006); Nguyên Giám đốc Thư viện Đại học Tokyo (2009 – 2015). Và hiện là Hiệu trưởng Trường Đại học Việt Nhật, ĐHQGHN.

Những đóng góp của ông đã được ghi nhận bằng nhiều danh hiệu và phần thưởng cao quý: Giáo sư được Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội trao bằng Tiến sĩ danh dự, Huy chương Hữu nghị (năm 1980); Giải thưởng Nhà nước về khoa học công nghệ (năm 2012); Huân chương Hữu nghị (năm 2013). 

Với cán bộ, giảng viên, sinh viên Trường Đại học Việt Nhật, ĐHQGHN di sản lớn nhất mà ông để lại không nằm ở những danh hiệu – mà ở tâm huyết xây dựng, phát triển trường, và hơn cả là tấm lòng dành cho sinh viên.

Mới đây, khi được nhận Giải thưởng Bảo Sơn, Giáo sư Hiệu trưởng đã trích 1 tỷ đồng để đóng góp vào quỹ học bổng cho sinh viên VJU. Trước đó, ông vẫn âm thầm, bền bỉ đóng góp, đặc biệt là dành phần lớn các giải thưởng, nhuận bút viết sách để trao tặng học bổng cho sinh viên (tổng giá trị tích lũy gần 700 triệu đồng). 

Ở Trường ĐH Việt Nhật, trong hầu hết các đợt trao học bổng, cái tên học bổng Thầy Furuta luôn là một phần thưởng quý giá dành cho những sinh viên ưu tú, có hoàn cảnh đặc biệt khó khăn hoặc các hoạt động kết nối đào tạo, nghiên cứu của sinh viên, học viên với Nhật Bản. Ví dụ, năm 2020, ông dành 2 triệu yên từ Giải thưởng Daido Seimei – giải thưởng danh giá của Chính phủ Nhật Bản – để hỗ trợ các sinh viên khóa đầu tiên ngành Nhật Bản học. Bên cạnh đó, bằng uy tín và tình cảm của mình, GS. Furuta cũng kết nối và kêu gọi tài trợ thông qua các câu lạc bộ khoa học, các doanh nhân, trí thức Nhật Bản tài trợ cho sinh viên Trường ĐHVN, như quỹ Azabu (1.3 triệu JPY và 155 triệu đồng), Mr. Takehara (200tr đồng) và nhiều tổ chức khác.

Hàng năm, học bổng mang tên GS Furuta vẫn luôn tiếp tục được duy trì tại VJU, là nguồn động viên lớn lao và thiết thực cho những bạn sinh viên trên con đường theo đuổi tri thức 

Cảm ơn GS. Furuta Motoo – người đã dành trọn tâm huyết để trở thành “cầu nối tri thức” giữa hai nền văn hóa Việt – Nhật!

GS.TS Momoki Shiro (Đại học Việt – Nhật, Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội): “Tôi vẫn giữ các số báo Hànội mới những năm 1980”

Giáo sư, Tiến sĩ (GS.TS) Momoki Shiro (sinh năm 1955) là Giáo sư Lịch sử Đại học Quốc gia Osaka (Nhật Bản), hiện là chuyên gia JICA làm việc tại Chương trình Khu vực học, Đại học Việt – Nhật (Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội).

Thuộc thế hệ thứ 3 của các nhà Việt Nam học người Nhật, GS.TS Momoki Shiro đến Việt Nam ngay từ những năm bắt đầu đổi mới (1986). Và Hànộimới cùng Nhân Dân là những tờ báo đầu tiên ông đã đọc hằng ngày để cập nhật tin tức, học tiếng Việt.

Hơn 30 năm nghiên cứu, sống ở Việt Nam, ông nói: “Ở Osaka, tôi vẫn giữ những tờ báo và bài báo Hànộimới những năm 1980 về lịch sử, văn hóa”.

Đọc báo – Cách thu nạp thông tin hữu hiệu

Các sinh viên, học viên, giảng viên Trường Đại học Việt – Nhật, Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội, lâu nay đã quen thuộc với hình ảnh vị giáo sư Nhật Bản của chương trình Khu vực học thường xuyên ăn sáng, ăn trưa ở các quán ăn văn phòng, sinh viên. Ông ưa thích những món bình dị của ẩm thực Việt như xôi, bún chả, cơm rang, bánh mì… và đôi khi “ra đề” cho các học trò trên Facebook một cách thú vị: “Hãy nghĩ ra đề tài nghiên cứu khu vực học liên quan đến các đồ uống này”.

Có lớp sinh viên trẻ trung, nghịch ngợm gọi ông trìu mến là “Thầy Đào” dịch từ tên “Momoki” (cây đào theo tiếng Nhật) trong tên ông – Momoki Shiro. Và, cũng từ cái tên Việt Nam “Đào Chí Lãng” mà ông tự đặt để bày tỏ tình cảm với Việt Nam.

Từ khi còn là một học sinh trung học, tiếp nhận tin tức về chiến tranh Việt Nam qua truyền hình, Momoki Shiro đã mong muốn nghiên cứu về Việt Nam. Năm 1986, ông sang Việt Nam học tiếng Việt và nghiên cứu, đến nay hơn 30 năm đi về giữa Việt Nam và Nhật Bản, ông được xem là nhà sử học, nhà Việt Nam học có nhiều đóng góp cho Việt Nam, cho Hà Nội.

Giáo sư Momoki Shiro cho thấy điều quan trọng với một nhà nghiên cứu nước ngoài khi sống ở Việt Nam là khả năng hòa nhập như một nhà dân tộc học vào đời sống bản địa. Ông thích đi du lịch một mình và “3 cùng” với người dân nơi ông tới.

Ông nói vui mà cũng là chắt lọc từ hành trình quan sát, nghiên cứu của mình, rằng “Bánh mì Việt Nam cũng là một thành tựu của đổi mới”. Hay như cách ông dặn dò sinh viên: “Giấy giới thiệu của trường đại học không có tác dụng gì đâu, muốn phỏng vấn các cụ ở làng thì phải ngồi xuống và uống chén rượu”.

Cũng như vậy, một trong những cách để thu nạp tin tức và hiểu đất nước con người bản địa là đọc báo. Giáo sư Momoki chia sẻ: “Từ tháng 10-1986, khi sang Việt Nam tôi đã đọc Báo Hànộimới và Nhân Dân. Sau này thói quen hằng ngày của tôi cũng là uống cà phê và đọc báo mỗi sáng. Ở nhà riêng của tôi tại Osaka, tôi vẫn giữ những tờ báo và bài báo Hànộimới, ví như tờ báo có sự kiện Đại hội Đảng, các bài báo về văn hóa thú vị. Hiện nay, không thể phủ nhận lợi ích to lớn của internet, nhưng tôi vẫn thích đọc báo giấy”.

Giáo sư Momoki Shiro cũng nhắc đến hình ảnh những sạp bán báo tại Hà Nội mà nay không còn nữa, và cả những thách thức mà báo chí đang phải đối diện.

Ông cũng cho biết: “Những năm 1980, các tờ báo lớn Nhật Bản ở vào thời kỳ đỉnh cao. Có báo phát hành cả bản buổi sáng như Asahi Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun. Thời phát xít Nhật, các tờ báo chỉ có 4 trang, sau đó dần dần lên 8 trang, 12 trang, rồi 16 trang, 20 trang, nhiều nhất là tờ chủ nhật lên tới hơn 30 trang. Những năm 1970 – 1980, bình quân bản buổi sáng 24 trang, buổi chiều 12 trang. Tuy nhiên, báo giấy gần đây giảm tờ buổi chiều và giảm cả số trang”.

Mặc dù vậy, Giáo sư Momoki Shiro cũng khẳng định, nhiều giáo viên trung học Nhật Bản vẫn hướng dẫn học sinh đọc báo bên cạnh việc học sách giáo khoa. Khoa sử Trường Đại học Quốc gia Osaka yêu cầu sinh viên đọc báo, sách giấy đối với hoạt động nghiên cứu khoa học.

Ông dẫn ra một câu chuyện thú vị, việc đọc tài liệu sách báo giấy với giới nghiên cứu còn giúp phân biệt tài liệu thật – giả, thông qua xác định niên đại tài liệu từ chất liệu giấy, cách thức in ấn… Tại Trường Đại học Việt – Nhật, hình ảnh của GS.TS Momoki Shiro xuất hiện trên giảng đường luôn gắn với một chồng sách tham khảo.

Phạm Hà Trang, sinh viên ngành Nhật Bản học, lớp BJS2020 (Trường Đại học Việt – Nhật) bày tỏ: “Giáo sư Momoki luôn khuyến khích sinh viên tham khảo tài liệu, sách báo để mở mang kiến thức, hướng tới việc “tự học suốt đời”. Bên cạnh việc giới thiệu tới sinh viên những tác phẩm hay, thầy luôn sẵn sàng mở thêm những lớp học bổ sung ngay cả khi môn học đã kết thúc”.

“Mong Hà Nội có thêm những mô hình phát huy bản sắc văn hóa”

Là giáo sư về lịch sử châu Á và đặc biệt là lịch sử thời Lý, Trần của Việt Nam, GS.TS Momoki Shiro đã có mặt trong đoàn chuyên gia nghiên cứu Hoàng thành Thăng Long và dự Đại lễ kỷ niệm 1.000 năm Thăng Long – Hà Nội.

Ông từng dành tặng khoa Lịch sử, Trường Đại học Khoa học xã hội và Nhân văn, hơn 700 cuốn sách nghiên cứu về Đông Á, Đông Nam Á, Việt Nam mà ông sưu tầm từ nhiều năm để tri ân nơi ông từng học tập, nơi có những nhà khoa học lớn mà ông khẳng định mình “chịu ảnh hưởng mạnh mẽ” như Giáo sư Phan Huy Lê, Giáo sư Trần Quốc Vượng, Giáo sư Hà Văn Tấn.

Hơn 30 năm nghiên cứu về Việt Nam, ông mang đến các công trình nghiên cứu với phương pháp tiếp cận mới của sử học toàn cầu. Một số đề tài tiêu biểu như thiết chế chính trị Việt Nam thời Lý, Trần; biến đổi xã hội Đại Việt thế kỷ XIV qua văn khắc – khảo sát trường hợp vùng Hà Tây; nghiên cứu lịch sử Chămpa và thương mại biển Đông Á – Đông Nam Á…

Tri thức của ông là sự kết hợp của đọc và sống với đời sống hằng ngày một cách vừa cẩn trọng, nghiêm túc vừa gần gũi, thấu hiểu. Những chuyến điền dã nghiên cứu khu vực học có sự tham gia của GS.TS Momoki Shiro đầy ắp những kiến giải thú vị, bổ ích cho người làm khoa học.

Chia sẻ về Hà Nội, ông có những góc nhìn so sánh với cố đô Kyoto nghìn năm tuổi của Nhật Bản: “Hà Nội phát triển rất nhanh, tâm tính con người, xã hội cũng có nhiều thay đổi, có điểm giống và khác với Kyoto. Tôi hay nhớ lại kỷ niệm của mình khi ở Kyoto. Ở Kyoto, phải có 3 đời từng sống tại đây mới được chấp nhận là dân cố đô. Về cơ bản là dân Kyoto vẫn tự hào về nền nếp lâu đời của mình. Giới khoa học Nhật Bản cũng ghi nhận vai trò Kyoto trong lịch sử và văn hóa”.

GS.TS Momoki Shiro cũng cho biết, thủ đô Tokyo thì phát triển kinh tế, cố đô Kyoto thì kêu gọi giữ gìn bản sắc văn hóa. Kyoto không có hiện tượng di dân mạnh, dân số gần như ổn định trong 50 năm qua, thành phố có những khu công nghiệp nhưng rất hạn chế. Tuy nhiên, Kyoto lại phải đối phó với vấn đề giao thông (tắc đường trên các đường phố cổ, hẹp và ô nhiễm không khí).

Trong điều kiện như vậy, lịch sử phát triển Kyoto đã ghi nhận một số mô hình sản xuất và kinh doanh rất mới mẻ như triết lý kinh doanh của ông Inamori Kazuo (đã có sách dịch sang tiếng Việt), rồi là nhà máy Nintendo sản xuất đồ chơi điện tử nổi tiếng thế giới, thành lập năm 1889 tại Kyoto… Các mô hình này đặt mục tiêu mang lại hạnh phúc cho nhân viên trước hết và đều không ngừng tìm kiếm, sáng tạo sản phẩm cạnh tranh.

Qua những chia sẻ trên, ông bày tỏ hy vọng, Hà Nội sẽ đưa ra mô hình sáng tạo độc đáo để giữ gìn, phát huy bản sắc văn hóa cũng như bề dày lịch sử của thành phố. Bởi đây chính là nền tảng để phát triển bền vững.

3. Citation

– Use footnotes for citations and explanations. Number footnotes continuously throughout the page. Font size for footnotes: 10.
