- Summary: The first International Conference on Vietnamese Studies was organized to introduce research on Vietnam in the context of the country’s early stage of international integration following the Đổi Mới (Renovation) reforms launched in 1986. Presentations focused on various fields such as history, culture, economy, and foreign policy. The conference highlighted Vietnam’s role in Southeast Asia, especially after its accession to ASEAN in 1995. Both international and domestic scholars discussed Vietnam’s potential and challenges in the globalization process, including market economy reforms and the preservation of cultural identity.
- Achievements: The conference laid the foundation for a continuing series of international conferences on Vietnamese Studies, establishing a forum for scholarly exchange between researchers both in Vietnam and abroad.
